Joan Rea has had a varied and multi-faceted career spanning several decades
and countries. A native of New York City, Joan studied at the Dramatic Workshop of theNew School; has lived and worked in Latin America and Europe, and presently resides in Houston, Texas. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian, she has performed in and directed legitimate and musical theatre, and has conducted seminars in theatre in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Brazil. Her voiceovers in English, Spanish and Portuguese include supermarket promotions, radio commercials, and industrial, educational, and public relations videos for clients including the Agricultural Cooperative Development International (ACDI), Washington, D.C., Alabama Broadcasting System, Birmingham, AL, Exxon-Mobil, Houston, TX, and the Texas State Legislature: US-Mexico Trade Meeting, Austin, TX. Joan holds a Ph.D. in Brazilian and Spanish American Literature and, in addition to her
academic, voiceover and theatre experience, has interpreted Spanish and Portuguese at meetings of both private and public organizations such as Rice University: Latin American Symposium, Houston, TX; Brown &; Root, Inc., Houston, TX; Triton International, Inc.; Houston, TX , Spaw-Glass, Inc.; Houston, TX, World Wise, Inc.; Houston, TX; and Lucas Petroleum Group, Houston, TX, among others. She has been an actor, dramaturge, and director in legitimate and musical theatre.
